Calderys officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art CAPES facility in Odisha, marking a major milestone in its global expansion strategy. Notably, this plant is the world’s largest single-site greenfield facility dedicated to refractories and steel casting fluxes. The company has already successfully commissioned two key production lines – the acidic monolithics line, which began commercial production in May 2025 and the basic monolithics line, which followed in November 2025. These lines are now actively supplying high-performance refractory solutions to customers across India. Meanwhile, Calderys continues to accelerate its expansion plans. Additional lines for acidic and basic bricks, steel casting fluxes and tap-hole clay are currently under development and are expected to become operational by 2026.
Strategic Investment Reinforces India Focus
Highlighting the significance of the project, Michel Cornelissen, President and CEO of Calderys, stated that the Odisha facility represents a new chapter in the company’s global growth journey. He emphasized that India remains a key strategic market, and the investment reflects Calderys’ commitment to building long-term partnerships locally.
Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President – Asia Pacific, noted that the CAPES project has progressed rapidly. Within just two years of groundbreaking, the facility is already operational—demonstrating strong execution capabilities and support from the Odisha government.
Large-Scale Facility to Serve Core Industries
Spread across 45 acres, the CAPES facility will ultimately house six advanced production lines along with cutting-edge quality testing units. Strategically located near major industrial hubs, the plant is designed to cater to high-growth sectors, including iron and steel, cement, aluminium, petrochemicals, energy and foundry. As a result, the facility will significantly enhance supply efficiency and responsiveness for industrial customers across India.
Driving Industrial Growth and Local Impact
Satyendra Kumar, Director of Industrial Operations and Projects (Southwest Asia), Calderys mentioned that CAPES is not just an industrial investment but also a commitment to India’s long-term growth and local community development. With two lines already operational and more set to come online, Calderys is delivering faster, world-class refractory solutions, while continuing to drive innovation and operational excellence.
Sustainability at the Core of Operations
Calderys has designed the facility with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. Key features include:
*Integration of solar energy and clean fuels
*Advanced dust emission control systems
*Rainwater harvesting infrastructure
*Zero water discharge design
*33% green cover across the site
These initiatives underscore the company’s commitment to responsible manufacturing and sustainable industrial practices.
Outlook: Strengthening India’s Industrial Ecosystem
As per the press release, with the CAPES facility, Calderys is well-positioned to support India’s rapidly expanding industrial base while strengthening its own global footprint. By combining scale, technology, and sustainability, the company is set to play a key role in shaping the future of refractory solutions in India and beyond.
