Balrampur Chini Mills approved the establishment of a lactogypsum processing plant in Kumbhi, Uttar Pradesh, as part of its strategy to enhance sustainability and value addition. The initiative marks a significant step in leveraging by-products from its upcoming Polylactic Acid (PLA) project, thereby strengthening its integrated operations model.
Turning Industrial By-Products into Commercial Opportunity
With an investment of up to ₹160 crore, the facility will utilise lactogypsum—a by-product generated during PLA production—to manufacture gypsum boards. As a result, the project will reduce industrial waste while promoting environmentally responsible manufacturing practices.
The plant is expected to produce around 76 lakh gypsum boards annually, catering to rising demand from the construction and infrastructure sectors. By converting waste into commercially viable products, BCML aims to improve resource efficiency while diversifying its revenue streams.
Timeline and Growth Outlook
The company expects to commence commercial operations at the plant by December 2027. This timeline positions BCML as a forward-looking player focused on sustainable industrial development and circular economy practices.
Fundraising to Support Expansion Plans
In addition to the plant approval, BCML’s Board has cleared a ₹450 crore fundraise through a preferential equity issue, subject to shareholder approval. This move will help strengthen the company’s balance sheet and support its ongoing expansion initiatives.
Revised Capex for PLA Project
The company has revised the capital expenditure for its Polylactic Acid (PLA) project to approximately ₹3,080 crore, reflecting updated project requirements and cost adjustments. As reported by projectstoday.ai, together, these initiatives highlight BCML’s commitment to integrating sustainability with growth, while building long-term value across its operations.
