Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nuvation Energy to localise and manufacture high-voltage Battery Management Systems (BMS) in India. The partnership will focus on grid-scale energy storage, commercial and industrial (C&I) storage systems, and renewable energy integration. The move comes as India accelerates efforts to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil power capacity by 2030, creating a growing demand for safe, reliable, and domestically manufactured energy storage technologies.
Supporting India’s Energy Storage Expansion
Under the collaboration, ARACT and Nuvation Energy will develop indigenous high-voltage BMS solutions tailored for Indian operating conditions. These systems will help improve the safety, reliability, and performance of large-scale battery energy storage installations across the country. At the same time, ARACT is expanding its lithium-ion battery manufacturing capabilities through a Rs 9,500 crore Gigafactory in Telangana and a 10 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility, further strengthening India’s domestic energy storage ecosystem.
Access to Proven Global BMS Technology
“Battery Management Systems are among the most technologically demanding components in the energy storage value chain, especially as grid-scale storage systems are growing in size and complexity,” said Dr. Vikash Venkataramana, Chief Product Officer, ARACT. “Our partnership with Nuvation Energy gives us access to proven, globally validated technology that we aim to localise and scale for Indian conditions, supporting the country’s clean energy transition,” Venkataramana added.
Building an Indigenous Storage Supply Chain
“India is at the centre of one of the world’s most important energy storage stories, and getting the foundations right, starting with the Battery Management System, is essential to building a safe, reliable storage ecosystem at scale,” said Michael Worry, CEO of Nuvation Energy.
“Partnering with Amara Raja allows us to bring 15 years of high-voltage BMS engineering directly into India, alongside a manufacturing partner with the scale and quality discipline to help the country build a truly indigenous storage supply chain,” informed Worry.
Strengthening India’s Clean Energy Transition
Through this alliance, Amara Raja and Nuvation Energy aim to deliver secure, high-performance, and locally manufactured battery management technology for India’s rapidly expanding grid-scale, commercial, industrial, and renewable energy storage markets. As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, the collaboration aligns with India’s broader clean energy and localisation goals by reducing dependence on imported battery electronics while supporting the growth of a resilient domestic energy storage manufacturing ecosystem.
