Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) entered into a strategic partnership with Norway-based Hystar AS to manufacture PEM electrolyser systems for green hydrogen projects in India. The partnership strengthens BHEL’s capabilities in the rapidly developing green hydrogen sector and supports the country’s efforts to expand domestic electrolyser manufacturing.
BHEL Expands Electrolyser Portfolio
Earlier this year, BHEL entered into a strategic partnership with thyssenkrupp nucera India Private Limited for alkaline electrolyser systems. Now, its collaboration with Hystar adds PEM electrolyser technology to its portfolio. As a result, BHEL will be among the few Indian companies capable of offering both alkaline and PEM electrolyser solutions. This broader technology portfolio will enable the company to address the diverse requirements of India’s emerging green hydrogen market.
Strengthening Green Hydrogen Project Capabilities
Furthermore, the collaboration with Hystar is expected to strengthen BHEL’s project execution capabilities for green hydrogen projects in India. PEM electrolysers can play an important role in producing green hydrogen using renewable electricity. By expanding its electrolyser technology capabilities, BHEL is positioning itself to participate more actively in India’s growing clean hydrogen ecosystem.
Supporting India’s Clean Energy Goals
BHEL is one of India’s leading engineering and manufacturing companies, with decades of experience across power, transmission, renewables, oil and gas, transportation, defence and aerospace. The company has played a significant role in developing India’s industrial infrastructure. At the same time, BHEL is leveraging its engineering, manufacturing and project execution expertise to enter emerging clean energy segments, including green hydrogen. The latest agreement with Hystar therefore represents another step in BHEL’s strategy to expand its role in India’s clean energy transition.
Boosting the National Green Hydrogen Mission
As reported by msn.com, the partnership is aligned with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and the Make in India initiative. By developing domestic capabilities for both alkaline and PEM electrolyser systems, BHEL can contribute to strengthening India’s green hydrogen manufacturing ecosystem and supporting the country’s long-term clean energy ambitions.
