Tata Steel Places Order with Devson Catalyst for Ammonia Product

Devson Catalyst Limited secured commercial orders from Tata Steel and NMDC for its newly developed Ammonia Decomposition Catalyst. The orders mark an important milestone for the company as it expands its portfolio of higher-value catalyst products. The Tata Steel order is the company’s first commercial order for this specific catalyst from Tata Steel, following successful application trials conducted at NMDC.

Devson Catalyst announced the development on September 4, 2026. According to Managing Director Savanbhai Prahlabdhai Patel, NMDC placed the initial order in May 2026, and the customer has successfully deployed the catalyst. Subsequently, Tata Steel approved the product, providing further validation of its performance in industrial applications.

Catalyst Enables Hydrogen Production from Ammonia

The Ammonia Decomposition Catalyst breaks down ammonia (NH₃) at high temperatures into hydrogen (H₂) and nitrogen (N₂). As a result, the catalyst can support hydrogen production by enabling the recovery of hydrogen from ammonia. In addition, the catalyst can decompose residual ammonia present in industrial process gases before downstream processing. This capability makes the technology relevant to industries seeking efficient gas treatment and hydrogen recovery solutions.

Applications Across Key Industries

Devson Catalyst expects the new product to serve several industrial applications. In particular, the catalyst can support:

Steel and Metallurgical Processing: Applications such as sulphur recovery and process-gas treatment.
