Egypt’s chemical and fertiliser exports to India saw a sharp rise in the first eight month of 2026 reaching $627 million, as compared with $147 million during the same period in 2025. According to the Daily News Egypt, which cited the Chemical and Fertilisers export council, the 325% growth represents an increase of $480 million in export value.

India became the third-largest destination for the Egypt’s chemical and fertiliser exports during the period, underlining its growing importance as a market for industry chemical and agricultural inputs.

Implications for India’s chemical and process industries

The sharp increase points to strengthening trade link between Egypt and India. Egypt could become a more significant sourcing market for India, which has substantial requirements for fertilisers and chemical feedstocks across agriculture, manufacturing and process industries.

Indian fertiliser manufacturers, chemical companies and importers may find opportunities to diversify their overseas supply base, depending on the specific products driving the increase.

Opportunities for Indian Manufacturers and Importers

For Indian companies, the export surge warrants closer monitoring of Egyptian suppliers and the product categories contributing to the growth. Potential opportunities could include fertiliser inputs, industrial chemicals and other products relevant to India’s chemical value chain.

Indian importers should assess product-level trade data before drawing conclusions about specific sourcing opportunities. Domestic manufacturers will also need to evaluate the competitive implications of increased imports, particularly where Egyptian products overlap with locally manufactured chemicals or fertiliser inputs.

Outlook

Whether the increase represents a sustained shift in bilateral trade will depend on demand, international prices, freight costs and competition from suppliers in other regions. Nevertheless, the reported figures underline Egypt’s growing importance in India’s chemical and fertiliser trade and provide a reason for Indian companies to examine the market more closely.
