Aerolloy Technologies Launches Titanium VAR Furnace

Aerolloy Technologies, a subsidiary of PTC Industries, has achieved a significant milestone by commissioning India’s first vacuum arc remelting (VAR) furnace for aerospace-grade titanium alloy ingots.

Located in Lucknow, the advanced German engineered facility features an annual melting capacity of 1,500 tons and can produce ingots up to 1,000 mm in diameter.

Ensuring Superior Quality with Advanced Technology

The VAR furnace operates under vacuum conditions, a crucial requirement for achieving a superior metallurgical structure and maintaining consistent alloy composition.

The advanced technology ensures the high-performance standards essential for aerospace applications, such as jet engines and airframes.

Jim Collins, Chief Technology Officer of PTC Industries, emphasized that the facility meets global standards for aerospace-grade titanium alloy production.

Boosting India’s Self-Reliance in Titanium Alloys

Sachin Agarwal, Chairman of PTC Industries, highlighted the strategic importance of the development.

He noted that the commissioning of the VAR furnace eliminates India’s reliance on imported titanium alloys, marking a pivotal step toward self-reliance in critical aerospace materials.

Expanding Aerospace Manufacturing Capabilities

PTC Industries is further strengthening its aerospace capabilities by constructing a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor.

The upcoming facility will house a fully integrated titanium and superalloy mill. It will be capable of producing aerospace-grade ingots, billets, bars, plates, and sheets.

The expansion underscores Aerolloy Technologies’ commitment. It focuses on enhancing indigenous production capacity and supporting India’s defense and aerospace sectors.

Aligning with the Make in India Initiative

The development aligns closely with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, which promotes domestic manufacturing in strategic sectors.

The achievement enhances India’s technological capabilities. It also positions the country as a competitive player in the global aerospace industry.

Joining an Elite Group of Nations

With the commissioning of the VAR furnace, India joins an elite group of nations, including the United States, Russia, China, France, and the United Kingdom, capable of manufacturing aerospace-grade titanium alloys.

The achievement enhances India’s technological capabilities. It also positions the country as a competitive player in the global aerospace industry.

As reported by projectstoday.com, the milestone signals a bright future for India’s aerospace manufacturing sector. It also reflects the country’s determination to achieve self-reliance in advanced materials.
