AES Andes has taken a significant step in advancing its proposed green hydrogen project, Inna, by submitting an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to Chilean permitting authorities.
The industrial-scale project is still in its early development stage. It aligns with Chile’s National Green Hydrogen Strategy. The project aims to explore solutions for domestic consumption and international export.
“We are in the early stages of this project and have not yet made an investment decision. However, the EIA submission is a crucial milestone in securing environmental permits and assessing the project’s feasibility,” stated Javier Dib, AES Chile Market Business Leader.
Dib emphasized AES Andes’ commitment to diversifying Chile’s energy mix. He highlighted the company’s focus on accelerating clean energy initiatives. Additionally, he underscored the importance of maintaining partnerships with local communities to drive sustainable economic development.
Strategic Partnership with Samsung C&T
AES Andes has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Samsung C&T. The Korean firm is a leader in energy and construction. This partnership aims to bolster the Inna project.
Samsung C&T recently gained recognition for constructing Korea’s first green ammonia terminal.
The collaboration will focus on evaluating opportunities to produce green hydrogen, potentially for both domestic use and export to global markets.
Integrated Renewable Solutions
The Inna project aims to integrate renewable energy technologies. These include solar, wind, and battery storage systems. The goal is to meet Chile’s electricity needs and support the production of green hydrogen and ammonia.
These sustainable energy sources are key to achieving the project’s objectives and enhancing the country’s clean energy infrastructure.
Commitment to Community and Environmental Standards
AES Andes has a history of engaging extensively with communities in the project’s region.
Particular attention has been given to the Changos communities in the area.
Luis Sarrás, AES Vice President of International Green Hydrogen said, “We will continue prioritizing community and stakeholder engagement as we explore the potential of this project. Our goal is to uphold the highest environmental and safety standards while fostering local economic growth”.
As per the press release, AES Andes has submitted the EIA. Along with its strategic partnership with Samsung C&T, the company underscores its dedication to supporting Chile’s clean energy transition. It also aims to position the country as a global leader in green hydrogen production.
