Amara Raja Energy & Mobility made significant advancement in India’s battery manufacturing industry by inaugurating a new battery pack plant and laying the foundation stone for a Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) at its Gigacorridor in Divitipalli, Mahbubnagar district.
The 260-acre Gigacorridor is poised to become a major hub for battery pack and cell production, with an expected capacity of 5 GWh and 16 GWh by 2031.
The newly opened phase one of the battery pack plant has an initial capacity of 1.5 GWh and is specifically designed to produce lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery packs tailored to Indian market requirements.
The battery packs will serve electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and address stationary energy storage needs. The CQP, anticipated to be operational by the first quarter of the next financial year, will focus on producing various cell types for customer testing and validation. The initiative follows Amara Raja’s recent partnership with Gotion Inobat (GIB) aimed at enhancing technology, manufacturing, and customized solutions.
The Gigacorridor project involves an investment of ₹9,500 crore, with plans to establish an advanced cell manufacturing gigafactory and a research and innovation centre in Hyderabad, named ePositive Energy Labs. As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, the project highlights Amara Raja’s commitment to developing world-class manufacturing capabilities within India’s rapidly expanding battery sector.
