Amara Raja to Invest Funds in Lithium-Ion Cell Gigafactory

Amara Raja Batteries is set to establish a cutting-edge research and manufacturing facility for lithium-ion batteries in Mahbubnagar district, Telangana. The company plans to invest over ₹9,500 crore over the next decade to build a lithium cell gigafactory with a production capacity of up to 16 GWh. Additionally, it will set up a battery pack assembly unit with a capacity of up to 5 GWh.

Amara Raja Giga Corridor and Innovation Centre

Amara Raja has chosen Telangana for its ambitious Amara Raja Giga Corridor, which, will include a state-of-the-art energy research and innovation centre in Hyderabad, named Amara Raja E-hub. The facility will house advanced laboratories and testing infrastructure for material research, prototyping, product life cycle analysis, and proof-of-concept demonstrations.

Fostering Innovation and Sustainability

The company envisions the E-hub as a catalyst for multi-stakeholder collaboration, fostering entrepreneurship in sustainable energy technologies. The initiative aligns with the government of India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision, promoting self-reliance in energy storage solutions.

Scaling Up Production with a Giga-Scale Facility

Amara will also establish a commercial-scale pilot plant, followed by its first giga-scale lithium cell production facility. The company has incorporated a dedicated subsidiary named Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies.
