Andhra Pradesh is set to welcome a state-of-the-art oil refinery and petrochemical complex in Ramayapatnam, Nellore district.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) will lead the ambitious project with an investment of ₹60,000 crore.
Ramayapatnam Chosen for Strategic Advantages
After evaluating three potential locations – Srikakulam, Machilipatnam, and Ramayapatnam – BPCL finalized Ramayapatnam for its strategic benefits. The site spans 1,000 acres and offers proximity to a dedicated jetty at the Ramayapatnam port. These logistical advantages, combined with favorable feasibility studies conducted in consultation with BPCL’s leadership in July, positioned Ramayapatnam as the ideal choice.
Formal Announcement Expected Soon
The state government is likely to formally announce the project later this month.
The announcement may align with the foundation stone-laying ceremony for NTPC’s green hydrogen hub in Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam.
BPCL’s substantial investment highlights Andhra Pradesh’s emergence as a hub for large-scale industrial projects.
Fulfilling Commitments Under the Reorganisation Act
The refinery aligns with the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, which mandated establishing a greenfield oil refinery and petrochemical hub in the state within a decade.
By delivering on this commitment, the project addresses a long-standing demand and reinforces the state’s industrial aspirations.
Industrial Growth
The Ramayapatnam refinery and petrochemical hub are expecting to generate substantial employment opportunities and drive economic growth in Andhra Pradesh.
BPCL aims to meet the country’s growing energy demands while fostering industrial advancement in the region by enhancing India’s downstream capabilities.
As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, the initiative marks a pivotal step in Andhra Pradesh’s journey toward becoming a major industrial powerhouse.
