The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) confirmed his appointment, marking a new chapter in his thirty-year career with the state-run oil giant.

Vast Industry Experience

Sahney steps into the role, taking over from V. Satish Kumar, the company’s director of marketing, who had been holding the additional charge as CMD since September 1. Before this elevation, Sahney was in charge of IOCL’s petrochemicals division, a pivotal area for the company’s growth.

According to the government’s announcement, Sahney’s tenure as CMD will last for five years or until his superannuation, whichever comes first.

Technical Expertise

With more than three decades of experience in refining and petrochemicals, Sahney has worked at five of IOCL’s nine refineries.

Among his significant achievements, Sahney played a critical role in the commissioning and optimization of the fifteen MMTPA Paradip refinery, which has greatly enhanced India’s refining capabilities and contributed to the nation’s energy security.

Driving Petrochemical Expansion

Before his current appointment, Sahney led IOCL’s petrochemical division, spearheading strategic initiatives such as the development of the massive Paradip petrochemical complex.

This project aims to solidify Indian Oil’s position in the petrochemicals market, as the company looks to increase its footprint in this fast-growing sector.

Sustainable Development

Arvinder Singh Sahney also chairs Terra Clean Ltd, a subsidiary of IOCL focused on sustainable solutions, reinforcing Indian Oil’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

His leadership comes at a crucial time, as IOCL and other state-run oil companies ramp up their efforts to integrate eco-friendly practices into their operations.

As reported by livemint.com, with this appointment, Sahney brings both expertise and vision to Indian Oil, steering it towards an expanded role in India’s energy and petrochemical landscape.
