Australia granted approval for an ambitious solar and battery farm project designed to export energy to Singapore, which is being hailed as the largest solar precinct globally. The $24 billion initiative by SunCable is set to transform the country’s remote northern region and is expected to power three million homes.
The project, will feature an extensive array of solar panels, batteries, and eventually an undersea cable connecting Australia with Singapore. Environment ministry highlighted the significance of the project, stating that it would be the largest solar precinct in the world positioning Australia as a leader in green energy.
Energy production is anticipated to commence in 2030. Covering 12,000 hectares (29,650 acres), the facility aims to generate four gigawatts of energy per hour for domestic use.
Additionally, two gigawatts will be transmitted to Singapore via an undersea cable, fulfilling approximately 15 percent of the city-state’s energy needs. As reported by techxplore.com, the project’s batteries will have a storage capacity of around 40 gigawatts.
