Birla Opus Emerges as Second Largest Decorative Paint Brand

Birla Opus Paints, a division of Grasim Industries Ltd., has achieved a major milestone by launching its fourth manufacturing plant in Chamarajnagar, Mysore.

The strategic move significantly boosts the company’s capacity and strengthens its position as India’s second-largest decorative paint manufacturer by installed capacity.

Expanding Manufacturing Capacity

The newly inaugurated Chamarajnagar plant adds a robust capacity of 230 million litres per annum (MLPA) to Birla Opus Paints’ production capabilities.

With this addition, the company’s total manufacturing capacity now stands at an impressive 866 MLPA.

Innovative Product Line and Advanced Technologies

The Chamarajnagar facility will produce a wide range of products, including water-based paints, enamel paints, and wood finish paints.

The plant leverages cutting-edge technologies such as:

*Advanced polymer synthesis for enhanced features like multi-stain resistance, dirt resistance, and crack bridge-ability.

*In-house resin production for solvent-based paints that offer high corrosion resistance, faster drying times, and superior gloss.

Commitment to Sustainability

The plant incorporates sustainable practices, including zero liquid discharge and fourth-generation manufacturing technology. These advancements ensure a defect-free and fully traceable supply chain, aligning with the company’s dedication to eco-friendly operations.

Roadmap to Industry Leadership

Birla Opus Paints is pursuing an ambitious plan to establish six manufacturing plants with a combined capacity of 1,332 MLPA, backed by an investment of ₹10,000 crore.

To date, ₹8,470 crore – 85% of the total investment has already been utilized.

Currently, four plants are operational, while the Mahad facility near Pune has entered trial production. Additionally, the Kharagpur plant near Kolkata is progressing on schedule.

Vision for Future Growth

Aditya Birla Group Chairman, Kumar Mangalam Birla, emphasized the company’s vision to redefine India’s paint industry.

He outlined the goal of achieving ₹10,000 crore in revenue within the first three years of full-scale operations, underscoring the company’s commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability.
