Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has taken a major step towards sustainability by entrusting VolksEnergie, a leader in energy storage, HVAC, and solar solutions, to deploy solar power plants across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The project, covering fourteen strategic locations, will feature LFP-based (Lithium Iron Phosphate) Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), marking a first-of-its-kind initiative in India.

Introducing LFP Batteries to Oil and Gas Projects

The project marks BPCL’s debut in utilizing advanced LFP batteries for its oil and gas pipeline operations.

Volks Energie will deploy a combined battery capacity of 1.6 MWh, while Engineers India Limited (EIL) will act as the project management consultant.

LFP batteries are known for their higher energy density, extended lifespan, and enhanced safety. They offer a significant upgrade over traditional batteries. These benefits provide pragmatic advantages for sensitive applications, such as oil and gas pipelines.

Volks Energie’s Vision for Sustainability

Piyush Goyal, CEO of Volks Energie mentioned, “We are honoured to partner with BPCL on this pioneering initiative. Our expertise in solar solutions and pipeline projects using Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries positions us uniquely to implement the LFP-based system. This technical advancement aligns with India’s sustainability goals, and we are proud to contribute to clean energy solutions”.

World-Class Safety Measures for Critical Infrastructure

Volks Energie commits to ensuring the highest safety standards for the project.

The LFP batteries will feature world-class safety systems, including an automatic fire suppression system, to safeguard the sensitive equipment at the stations.

The deployment sets a benchmark for using advanced battery technology in critical infrastructure projects.

Paving the Way for Nationwide Adoption

As India intensifies its focus on sustainability and clean energy, this project is a significant milestone.

We expect the successful execution to open doors for the nationwide adoption of LFP-based solar power systems and accelerate the country’s transition to renewable energy solutions.

According to the press release, BPCL and Volks Energie are embracing advanced energy storage solutions. They are driving India’s progress towards a greener, more sustainable future.
