Carbon Clean, a pioneer in carbon capture technology, has launched its cutting-edge CycloneCC C1 series, taking a significant step toward commercialization. Designed for flexibility and efficiency, the CycloneCC C1 series operates across concentrations of 3% to 20%, capturing up to 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
Space-Efficient Design with Modular, Columnless Technology
The CycloneCC C1 unit is entirely modular and lacks conventional columns, which reduces its height by 70%. Instead, it incorporates Rotating Packed Bed (RPB) technology to replace traditional columns. This innovation not only reduces steel use by 35% but also lowers the unit’s carbon footprint. CycloneCC C1 has a footprint 50% smaller than traditional carbon capture plants, with a reduced equipment size by a factor of 10. Each unit arrives prefabricated, skid-mounted, and road-transportable, lowering costs associated with logistics, site prep, and installation.
CycloneCC C1 Series Unique Technology Cuts Carbon Capture Costs by Fifty Percent
CycloneCC C1’s unique technology enables cost savings of up to 50% over conventional methods. Facing the 2030 deadline to reduce global emissions by 45%, many industries, especially those in hard-to-abate sectors, are under pressure to decarbonize. Yet, over half of industrial emitters lack the space for standard carbon capture installations. With its compact design, CycloneCC C1 presents a cost-effective solution, particularly for small-to-midsize emitters and companies needing multiple units across flue gas sources.
Prateek Bumb, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Carbon Clean said, “The launch of the CycloneCC C1 series is a major milestone in the technology’s commercialisation. Repeatability is key to mass adoption, as demonstrated with solar panels and EV batteries. Carbon Clean is leading a similar transformation through eliminating the columns used in conventional carbon capture solutions. Delivering fully modular, columnless, replicable units with a substantially smaller footprint is a technological breakthrough. CycloneCC’s ‘Lego-block’, ‘plug and play’ design makes it simple and cost-effective to install, making carbon capture financially and logistically viable to be deployed at scale. First-mover customers and early adopters will have the advantage of tangible decarbonisation results while benefiting from a staggered approach to capital investment due to CycloneCC C1’s modular design”.
Powered by Process Intensification Technology
At the core of CycloneCC C1 is an innovative combination of two process intensification technologies: RPBs and Carbon Clean’s proprietary APBS-CDRMax solvent. The application of RPBs to carbon capture significantly reduces plant size and enhances mass transfer, accelerating CO₂ absorption.
The high-performance APBS-CDRMax solvent brings operational cost benefits, outperforming the standard industry solvent by reducing energy demands by 10-25%. It also mitigates corrosion by a factor of 20, decreases degradation tenfold, and lasts five times longer.
First-Mover Advantage for Early Adopters
As per the press release, early customers of the CycloneCC C1 series will shape the technology’s final commercial version while realizing immediate decarbonization benefits. As priority clients, these early adopters will also be among the first to access the fully commercialized CycloneCC solution when it scales.
