Carborundum Universal planning to establish a silicon carbide facility capable of producing six tons per month in Kerala, with an expected completion time of eighteen months. The facility aims to cater to the needs of semiconductor wafer manufacturing and technical ceramics in sectors such as defence, electronics, and electric vehicles (EVs).
Carborundum had acquired the assets of Dronco, a German abrasive products manufacturer in 2023. The assets have been relocated to India, where the company plans to set up a facility, a process estimated to take approximately two years.
Once operational, the Indian facility is projected to manufacture fifty million thin wheels annually, adding approximately ₹250-₹300 crore to the company’s revenue, commencing from FY27. Additionally, the company has earmarked capital for IT infrastructure and safety enhancements in the current fiscal year, aiming to bolster its presence in key markets and sectors.
As reported by Projects Today, Carborundum anticipates a growth rate of up to eleven percent, with consolidated sales expected to range between ₹5,100-₹5,200 crore, compared to ₹4,628 crore in FY24.
For FY25, the company foresees growth of eleven to twelve percent in the abrasive business, twelve to fourteen percent in ceramics, and at least five to six percent in electro-minerals. The growth in abrasives is expected to be primarily driven by the Indian business, RHODIUS, and AWUKO.
