CASE, a global player in industrial solutions, has achieved a milestone in gasification technology. The company successfully installed coal gasifiers for the Straight Grate Pellet Roasting application at Rungta Mines in Odisha and Jharkhand, marking the world’s first deployment of this innovative technology. The advancement highlights CASE’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and energy efficiency in industrial operations.

Replacing Furnace Oil with Cost-Effective Coal Gas

CASE’s gasification technology completely replaces expensive furnace oil with coal gas in pellet production, providing a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for the iron and steel industry. By utilizing high-ash coal (over 40% ash content, <3200 kcal/kg calorific value), CASE has developed a process that maximizes efficiency while maintaining operational reliability.

Seamless Transition to 100% Coal Gas Firing

The transition to coal gas firing was a progressive journey, explained Rahuel George, Country Head of Case Group. Initially, only 30% of burners were used for coal gas firing. Encouraged by its success, the team increased the proportion to 60%, and finally, 100%. The smooth transition set a new industry benchmark for coal gasification in pellet production.

Unmatched Efficiency and Energy Optimization

CASE’s gasification system delivers over 80% coal-to-gas conversion efficiency and achieves more than 90% thermal efficiency. The high percentage of clean tar generation enhances heat recovery, making the process more energy-efficient. Additionally, the system maintains consistent gas quality and pressure, optimizing air-to-fuel management, improving combustion, and enhancing pellet production.

Sustainable Practices with Zero Liquid Discharge

CASE integrates sustainability into its gasification system by reusing phenol water as a gasifying agent, complying with Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) norms. This approach reduces industrial pollution, aligns with global green energy standards, and minimizes environmental impact.

Low Maintenance, High Reliability

The system is designed for efficiency, ease of operation, and cost savings. Unlike traditional setups, it eliminates the need for refractory materials, preventing clogging or choking. Additionally, burners remain clean without impurity deposition, reducing the need for frequent maintenance. By operating without compressed air or nitrogen, the system significantly lowers operational costs, making it an economical choice for industries.

Fully Automated for Continuous Operations

CASE’s fully automated system ensures seamless, round-the-clock operations with zero downtime. Minimal human intervention is required, allowing industries to maintain continuous production, improve productivity, and enhance efficiency.

Pioneering the Future of Industrial Gasification

“The world-first achievement reflects CASE’s unwavering dedication to pushing the boundaries of industrial innovation. By leveraging advanced gasification technology, we are setting new benchmarks in efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability,” said Mr. Roger Kumar, Managing Director at CASE Group. As per the press release, with this milestone, CASE reinforces its position as a leader in sustainable and high-performance gasification technology, revolutionizing energy solutions for industries worldwide.
