Chemco Group has taken a major step in advancing circular plastics by commissioning a food-grade rPET recycling facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The plant converts used PET bottles into safe, food-ready packaging at industrial scale, reinforcing Chemco’s commitment to sustainability and responsible packaging.
Large-scale bottle-to-bottle recycling in Gujarat
The new facility can process over one billion post-consumer PET bottles annually, producing high-quality recycled PET suitable for direct use in food and beverage packaging. This positions Chemco as one of the few Indian companies capable of end-to-end bottle-to-bottle recycling at scale.
Built with an investment of approximately ₹125 crore, the plant reduces reliance on virgin plastics while maintaining stringent quality and safety standards. Strategically located in Sanand’s industrial hub, the facility operates on a closed-loop model, giving Chemco full control over the recycling process and enhancing traceability, supply reliability, and operational efficiency.
Compliance with global and Indian standards
The rPET produced at the plant meets the highest global and domestic standards. It is approved by the US FDA and EFSA, and fully compliant with FSSAI regulations for food-contact applications in India. Operations adhere to all relevant Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) norms for plastic recycling, reflecting Chemco’s commitment to regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and product integrity.
Strategic investment in sustainability
Vaibhav Saraogi, Managing Director, Chemco Group, said, “This facility represents a strategic shift in how Chemco approaches sustainability. Rather than relying on external recycling, we have built a fully integrated bottle-to-bottle ecosystem that ensures supply security, traceability, and compliance for our customers. This is not just an investment in infrastructure; it is an investment in the future of responsible packaging.”
Supporting circular packaging and India’s green goals
The plant comes at a time of increasing focus on recycled content, carbon reduction, and extended producer responsibility (EPR). By bringing recycling in-house, Chemco helps brand owners meet these requirements without compromising on food safety or product performance.
As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, beyond environmental benefits, the facility creates skilled employment, strengthens Gujarat’s manufacturing ecosystem, and supports India’s broader circular economy and waste reduction goals. Chemco plans to leverage this platform to expand rPET capacity and develop higher recycled-content applications in the future.
