There are a group of more than 900 chemicals that are resistant to degradation and euphemistically called ‘Forever Chemicals’. One such group known as per-and poly fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are resistant to degradation mainly due to the robustness of the C-F bond. As much as these chemicals have useful applications, they are also dangerous to the environment. Our columnist says that the most effective way to prevent the release of these harmful substances is by either reducing their use or totally eliminating them. Towards this a serious dialogue is needed among all stakeholders.
