Chemical Sector’s Role in India’s Development
At the recently held Chemical Summit organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Gujarat’s Minister of State for Environment, Mukeshbhai Zinabhai Patel, stressed the critical role of the chemical sector. He highlighted its importance in achieving India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
“The chemical industry must take the lead in positioning India as a global manufacturing powerhouse,” Patel asserted.
He emphasized the need to engage the youth in driving this growth. He also addressed misconceptions about the environmental impact of investments in the sector.
Gujarat’s Initiatives for Sustainable Growth
Patel highlighted Gujarat’s proactive measures to manage environmental challenges, including the state’s innovative Deep Sea Project.
The initiative is designed to tackle industrial waste management. It will attract new investments and also facilitate the expansion of chemical clusters across Gujarat.
He further called for a strategic partnership between the government and industry. This partnership aims to achieve net-zero emissions and align with India’s long-term sustainability goals.
Industry Leaders Champion Sustainability and Innovation
Industry leaders echoed Patel’s vision, underscoring the sector’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Venkatadri Ranganathan, Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Chemicals noted, “Digitization will strengthen India’s leadership in specialty chemicals and green technologies, particularly in the Western region, solidifying its industrial dominance”.
Vikram Handa, Managing Director, Epsilon Carbon stated, “The chemical sector holds the key to unlocking battery materials manufacturing, a cornerstone of the global energy transition”.
