The Chemours Company has announced a partnership with PCC Group to establish a chlor-alkali facility at Chemours’ titanium dioxide (TiO2) plant in DeLisle, Mississippi.
The facility will utilize advanced technology to enhance energy efficiency and achieve an annual nameplate capacity of up to 3,40,000 metric tons once operational.
Key Details of the Agreement
Under the partnership, PCC Group will build and operate the facility, while Chemours has entered into a chlorine supply agreement with PCC.
The agreement, subject to customary conditions precedent, ensures a steady on-site chlorine supply for Chemours.
In addition to chlorine production, PCC will market the co-product, caustic soda, to strategic partners and on the open market.
Construction is slated to begin in early 2026, with the plant expected to be fully operational by 2028.
The Benefits
“This partnership marks a significant milestone in Chemours Titanium Technologies’ transformation journey under the Pathway to Thrive initiative,” said Denise Dignam, President and CEO of Chemours.
Dignam added, “Collaborating with PCC Group will enhance supply reliability through on-site chlorine production, lower manufacturing costs, and help us better serve our customers as their trusted TiO2 partner. Additionally, this agreement requires no up-front financial commitment from Chemours, reinforcing our dedication to operational excellence.”
Dignam also emphasized the company’s commitment to the Mississippi Gulf Coast community, which Chemours has proudly served for nearly 45 years.
Vision for Expansion
Peter Wenzel, CEO of PCC SE said, “Our collaboration with Chemours reflects PCC Group’s commitment to expanding our chemical business through long-term relationships,” Wenzel stated. “Leveraging our decades of experience, we aim to responsibly grow this venture while exploring additional opportunities in the region. Working with a globally renowned partner like Chemours sets a benchmark in the industry.”
A Step Towards Industry Innovation
The new chlor-alkali facility represents a significant step forward for both companies.
As reported by Morningstar.com, by combining Chemours’ expertise in titanium technologies with PCC’s experience in chemical production, the partnership aims to deliver innovative solutions while bolstering the local economy and ensuring environmental responsibility.
