Over the next four years, coal mining companies plan to invest approximately ₹20,000 crore in establishing renewable energy generation projects across various states. Coal companies – Coal India (CIL), Singareni Collieries (SCCL), and Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) have devised their net zero plus strategies. The plan requires them to install more renewable energy capacity than their thermal power needs for operations.

As reported by ETEnergyworld.com, NLC has already achieved Net Zero with an installed capacity of 1,600 MW, and SCCL is on track to reach net zero next year. Coal India will need an additional three years to attain this goal. The estimated cost is about ₹5 crore per Megawatt.
