COBCO, a player in battery materials solutions across Europe and North America, has officially launched its first batch of Nickel Cobalt Manganese (NCM) precursor cathode active material (PCAM) production lines at Jorf Lasfar, Morocco.
The achievement marks a major step in the company’s mission to create a sustainable, world-class ecosystem for battery material production.
Advancing Sustainable Battery Material Production
The newly launched production lines focus on producing PCAM using state-of-the-art NCM technology.
The facility incorporates advanced technologies to ensure superior product quality while meeting stringent environmental sustainability standards.
With an annual total production capacity of 120,000 tons of PCAM, COBCO is poised to meet the surging global demand for battery components, particularly from Europe and North America.
Expanding Capacity for a Closed-Loop Ecosystem
The milestone is part of COBCO’s larger investment strategy. This strategy includes developing facilities for Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cathode active materials and advanced black mass recycling.
Together, these facilities will achieve a combined production capacity equivalent to 70 GWh, sufficient to power over one million electric vehicles annually.
By integrating recycling and production proes, cessCOBCO aims to establish a closed-loop battery materials platform in Morocco. The initiative underscores the company’s dedication to circularity and sustainability.
100% Green Energy Goals by 2026
COBCO is leveraging Morocco’s abundant renewable energy resources to power its operations.
The company has set an ambitious target to achieve 100% green energy utilization by 2026.
The commitment will significantly reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to global efforts to transition to clean energy.
Strategic Partnerships and Local Integration
COBCO’s supply chain strategy emphasizes ethical sourcing by partnering with Moroccan and international suppliers.
Its strategic location near OCP Group, a global leader in phosphate-based fertilizers, further enhances its operational efficiency.
The project also prioritizes local economic impact, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs in Morocco.
COBCO is dedicated to transferring advanced technological expertise to local talent. This aligns with Morocco’s industrial strategy and its vision to lead in sustainable industries.
Pioneering a New Era for EV Supply Chains
Allen Luo, CEO of COBCO, said, “This commissioning marks the beginning of a new era for COBCO. It highlights Morocco’s role in the global EV supply chain. We are building a low-carbon, high-quality manufacturing base. This base not only meets the needs of our customers but also sets new standards for sustainability in battery materials manufacturing.”
COBCO’s latest advancements reflect its commitment to innovation. They also demonstrate a focus on sustainability and leadership in the rapidly evolving battery materials sector, as per the press release.
