DCM Shriram Boosts Production with Caustic Soda Plant in Gujarat

DCM Shriram has successfully commissioned a new 300-ton per day (TPD) caustic soda flakes plant at its Jhagadia chemicals complex in Bharuch, Gujarat. This expansion boosts the unit’s total production capacity to 900 TPD, reinforcing its position as one of India’s largest single-location caustic soda producers.

Doubling Production Capacity

The newly launched caustic soda plant mirrors an identical unit commissioned in October last year. Both plants operate as flexi-fuel facilities, allowing multiple fuel options to enhance sustainability and efficiency. This approach aligns with the company’s commitment to eco-friendly and cost-effective manufacturing practices.

Versatile Applications and Export Potential

Caustic soda, also known as sodium hydroxide, plays a crucial role in various industries, including textiles, pulp and paper, alumina production, soaps and detergents, petroleum refining, and water treatment. It is available in both liquid (lye) and solid (flakes) forms. The flakes variant is particularly advantageous for long-distance transportation and is preferred for exports due to its stability.

Strengthening Market Leadership

With this expansion, DCM Shriram strengthens its position as India’s second-largest caustic soda producer. As reported by projectstoday.com, the company now boasts a total installed capacity of one million tonnes per annum (MTPA), reinforcing its role as a key player in the chemical industry.
