As part of the governments Action Plan for Viksit Bharat@2047, the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) organized the fourth training programme on Chemical and Petrochemical Industrial Safety.
The event took place from January 23-24, 2025, at the Institute of Petrochemicals Technology (IPT) – Chennai, a centre under the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET).
The training focused on enhancing safety measures for Major Accident Hazard (MAH) units in the chemical and petrochemical sector.
Expanding Industrial Safety Training Nationwide
The initiative is part of a larger series of training programmes aimed at strengthening industrial chemical safety across India.
The Department plans to organize forty-eight training programmes over the next five years, targeting 2,393 MAH units nationwide.
The Chennai programme saw active participation from 113 representatives across 65 MAH industries.
Expert-Led Sessions on Critical Safety Topics
Technical experts from CLRI, Anna University, Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute, Thirumalai Chemicals, and various consulting firms led insightful sessions on crucial safety and environmental management topics.

- Toxicology and Hazard Identification
- Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Role of ICT and Technology in Chemical Safety

- Hands-On Training Through Mock Drill
To reinforce practical knowledge, participants engaged in a mock drill conducted in collaboration with Kothari Petrochemicals at CIPET: IPT Chennai.
The drill provided hands-on experience in managing industrial hazards and emergency situations effectively.
