EIL Secures Patent for Chimney Distributor Design

EIL-R&D has secured a patent for an innovative chimney distributor design tailored for fluidised bed gasifiers handling high ash coal. Traditional flat plate distributors with chimneys often encounter challenges such as the formation of dead zones and unutilised carbon near the distributor plate, particularly in the presence of a high ash content. This issue can lead to clinker formation, necessitating plant shutdowns.

To address these concerns, a comprehensive approach encompassing conceptualisation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) studies, and cold flow experimental studies was undertaken. The insights gained from these studies paved the way for novel ideas, and their successful implementation resulted in the granted patent.

As reported by PSU Connect, the developed technology is poised to revolutionise large-scale fluidized bed coal gasifiers handling high ash coal, mitigating issues related to dead zones and unutilised carbon. The breakthrough aligns with the company’s strategic vision, enabling diversification in the field of coal gasification and facilitating progress toward achieving net-zero targets.
