Principal Scientific Advisor, Professor Ajay Kumar Sood unveiled the ‘Science for Women – A Technology and Innovation (SWATI)’ portal. The initiative aims to establish a centralised online platform representing Indian Women and Girls in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine).

During the launch event held at the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) in New Delhi, Professor Sood emphasized that the SWATI portal’s database will play a crucial role in policymaking to tackle gender disparities.

Developed, hosted, and managed by the National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) in New Delhi under the leadership of Dr. Subhra Chakraborty, the SWATI portal is the first of its kind in India. It serves as a comprehensive interactive database.

As reported by BioSpectrum, the SWATI portal’s objectives are multifaceted, aiming to significantly expand efforts to include every Indian woman in science (WiS) across various career stages and disciplines, both in academia and industry.

Additionally, it aims to facilitate reliable, statistically significant long-term research on equality, diversity, and inclusivity issues in India. The portal will feature an active search engine and a searchable database to enhance accessibility and usability.
