Engie to Double Renewable Energy Capacity

Engie, the Indian subsidiary of the France based energy solutions company, is set to double its renewable energy (RE) capacity in India to approximately 2.2 GW by 2025 with an investment of $870 million, equivalent to ₹7,000 crore.

Engie has invested about $1.1 billion, establishing a RE base of 1.1 GW, consisting of 800 MW of solar power and 250 MW of wind energy spread across seven states. The company is actively pursuing four new projects, including a 400 MW project in Gujarat, and aims to expand its base to five GW by 2030.

As reported by Projects Today, Engie has also secured contracts for three projects totalling 650 MW in capacity from NTPC (300 MW), NHPC (250 MW), and SECI (100 MW), with construction expected to commence around mid to late 2024. The projects, for which Engie has already received letters of award (LoA), are anticipated to be commissioned by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
