Essar Oil UK Secures Key Technology Partner for Carbon Capture

Essar Oil UK has announced the finalisation of the key licensor technology provider for its planned EET Industrial Carbon Capture facility at Stanlow, UK. The chosen technology is Elessent Clean Technologies’ BELCO gas cleaning technology.

With this selection, Essar Oil UK has successfully enlisted all crucial technology partners, and the development of basic engineering design packages (BEDP) for the licensed technologies is now underway. This marks a significant milestone in the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase of the project.

As reported by daijiworld.com, the development represents a major stride in Essar Oil UK’s $1.2 billion investment initiative aimed at decarbonising the refinery. The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by two million tons (95%), positioning it as the world’s first low-carbon refinery and the first to produce low-carbon fuel on a global scale.

Deepak Maheshwari, CEO, Essar Oil UK commented, “It’s great to have our final licensor technology provider in place as we move into the next phase of our decarbonisation strategy. With an investment of $1.2 billion, Essar Oil UK is positioned to be the world’s first low carbon refinery. Elessent Clean Technologies is a valuable partner in our plan to reduce our refinery emissions by 95 per cent using the BELCO scrubbing technology”.
