GAIL (India) Ltd has accelerated its goal to achieve net zero carbon emissions by five years, moving the target year from 2040 to 2035. The advancement in the timeline was approved by the GAIL board and pertains to Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
Scope 1 emissions are those directly generated by the company, such as from fuel consumption in factories and company vehicles. Scope 2 emissions are indirect, originating from the production of the electricity the company uses.
Sandeep Kumar Gupta, GAIL’s Chairman and Managing Director, highlighted that the company specializes in the marketing and transmission of natural gas, a cleaner fuel that helps reduce emissions for various industries and end consumers.
As reported by ETEnergyworld.com, the revised target reflects GAIL’s proactive approach to addressing climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.
