GAIL (India) Ltd and Accelera by Cummins, the zero-emissions arm of Cummins Inc., have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on clean energy and energy transition technologies in India. The agreement was formalized during India Energy Week 2025 in New Delhi.
Focus on Hydrogen and Green Energy Solutions
Through the partnership, GAIL and Accelera will explore opportunities in green energy, particularly hydrogen production, blending, transportation, and storage.
Accelera brings expertise in new energy solutions, while GAIL provides a well-established natural gas infrastructure to support these initiatives.
Accelerating India’s Net-Zero Goals
GAIL, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has advanced its net-zero target from 2040 to 2035.
The collaboration with Accelera marks a significant step in India’s energy transition, aligning with the country’s sustainability objectives.
Cummins’ Advanced Energy Technologies
Cummins Inc. offers a diverse portfolio, including advanced powertrains, electric and hybrid solutions, electric power generation systems, batteries, hydrogen production technologies, and fuel cells. Accelera’s expertise in hydrogen and renewable energy technologies will complement GAIL’s clean energy projects.
GAIL’s Green Hydrogen and Biogas Initiatives
In April 2024, GAIL commissioned a 10 MW Green Hydrogen unit at its Vijaipur plant in Guna District, Madhya Pradesh. The electrolyzer for this unit was supplied by Accelera by Cummins.
GAIL has also conducted successful pilot studies blending hydrogen with CNG and PNG networks and plans to scale up these efforts.
Additionally, the company has established a five TPD Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Ranchi and plans to develop 26 more CBG plants across India in the next three to four years.
Strategic Partnerships for Energy Transition
GAIL has partnered with Leafiniti Bioenergy to set up ten CBG plants. In collaboration with Coal India, it is working on producing Synthetic Natural Gas in West Bengal.
Furthermore, GAIL has entered a joint venture to build a 1G, 500 KLPD grain-based ethanol plant in Rajasthan.
Commitment to a Sustainable Future
With this partnership, GAIL and Accelera reaffirm their commitment to advancing clean energy solutions and supporting India’s ambitious energy transition goals.
As reported by cnbctv18.com, by leveraging cutting-edge technologies and strategic collaborations, they aim to drive sustainable growth in the country’s energy sector.
