In a significant effort to promote sustainable energy, the government has approved the ‘Scheme for Development of pipeline infrastructure for the Injection of Compressed Biogas (CBG) into City Gas Distribution (CGD) Networks’. The initiative is poised to stimulate the establishment of a comprehensive CBG infrastructure nationwide.

Outlined in a government memorandum, the initiative seeks to seamlessly integrate CBG into the mainstream energy grid, thereby fostering a more environmentally friendly and efficient energy distribution system. The scheme offers financial assistance for the construction of essential CBG-CGD grid connections and boasts a substantial financial allocation of ₹954.90 crore.

The scheme is in line with India’s objectives for energy security and reducing carbon emissions. As reported by ETEnergyworld.com, the strategic manoeuvre is anticipated to incentivize investments in the biofuel sector while supporting the government’s broader vision for long-term energy self-sufficiency and sustainability.
