The third edition of the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Youth Forum showcased the pivotal role of GCC youth in driving regional development and global progress.
Organized by GPCA and the GPCA Youth Council, the event attracted 385 young professionals and students from across the Arabian Gulf.
Held alongside the 18th Annual GPCA Forum from December 2-5, 2024, at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre in Muscat, the forum focused on the theme “Youth Powering Tomorrow: Shaping a Sustainable Future.”
A Call to Action for Youth Engagement

Bold Adaptation vs. Lasting Impact
A major highlight of the forum was the “Youth Debate,” which explored how the petrochemical industry can balance bold adaptation with meaningful, long-term impact for future generations.
Moderated by Abdullah Albaze of SABIC, the debate featured key industry leaders, including:
- Dr. Fahad A. Al-Sherehy, VP of Corporate Sustainability, SABIC
- Dr. Ammar Mohammed Al Ojaili, VP of R&D and Innovation, OQ
- Lama Al-Otaibi, Vice-Chair of the GPCA Youth Council
- Mohammed A. Fakhroo, Co-Chair of the Outreach Sub-Council, GPCA Youth Council
CEO Panel: Driving Sustainability Through Collaboration
The forum also featured a CEO Panel titled “Leading Sustainable Innovations in the Chemical Industry.”
Industry leaders, including Hilal Al Kharusi (OQ), Khalid Al Dawood (NATPET), and Naser Aldousari (EQUATE), shared real-life examples of achieving sustainability goals through collaboration and innovation.
Energy and Youth: Roundtable Discussions
In a dynamic roundtable moderated by Ahmad Alshahrani of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, speakers explored critical themes. Participants included Abdullah Aljarbou (KAPSARC), Aseel Al Masoudi (OQ), and Mohamed Almoosawi (GPIC). They discussed the intersection of energy, youth leadership, and sustainability.
Day Two Highlights: Academia Meets Industry
Dr. Abdulwahab Al Sadoun, Secretary General of GPCA, welcomed delegates with an emphasis on youth as drivers of sustainability.
The keynote address by Dr. Mohammed Al-Mulla, CEO of QAPCO, focused on the synergy between academia and the chemical industry.
A “Youth Zone Workshop,” moderated by Hanan Wali from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, prepared attendees for the skills of tomorrow.
Engaging Finale: Mentorship and Real-World Simulations
The forum concluded on December 5 with Speed Mentorship and a simulation-based mock interview activity.
Over twenty senior leaders participated in mentoring sessions, providing delegates with advice on career advancement, job interviews, and personal growth.
