Grasim Commences Commercial Production at Resin Unit in Mahad, Maharashtra

Grasim Industries Ltd., the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, commenced commercial production at its newly built resin manufacturing block within the Birla Opus Paints facility in Mahad, Maharashtra. The resin unit, which boasts an installed capacity of 22 million litres per annum (MLPA), began operations on June 24, 2025.

Enhancing In-House Capabilities

The resin produced at this facility will be used in-house for paint manufacturing, helping the company reduce dependency on external suppliers and improve production efficiency. Resins are a critical component in paint formulations, serving as binders that provide adhesion, durability, and film formation—making them essential to overall product performance.

Part of a Larger Paints Manufacturing Ecosystem

The development builds on Grasim’s earlier move in March 2025, when it launched commercial operations at the broader Mahad paints plant. That facility includes capacities of 180 MLPA for water-based paints, 20 MLPA for distemper, and 30 MLPA for solvent-based paints.

Strengthening Vertical Integration in Paints Business

With the addition of resin production, Grasim further strengthens its backward integration in the paints segment. As reported by cnbctv18.com, the move not only ensures better quality control and cost efficiency but also supports the company’s strategic ambition to be a competitive force in the Indian paints market under the Birla Opus brand.
