Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL) has successfully commissioned a natural gas pipeline connecting Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd’s (HPCL) greenfield five million tons per annum (MTPA) LNG regasification terminal in Chhara, Gujarat, to the national gas grid. The milestone enhances India’s natural gas infrastructure and supply network.
₹650 Crore Project with High Transmission Capacity
Developed at an estimated cost of ₹650 crore, the pipeline boasts a transmission capacity of 18 million standard cubic meters per day. GSPL commissioned it on March 20. The pipeline was strategically routed along the outskirts of the eco-sensitive Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary. This helped minimize environmental impact.
Construction and Key Infrastructure
In September 2023, GSPL awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the pipeline. The contract went to Mumbai-based Ace Pipeline Contracts Private Limited. The project features key infrastructure, including a dispatch terminal at the HPCL LNG facility in Chhara. It also includes multiple valve stations and a receiving terminal at Lothpur in Amreli district.
Strengthening India’s Gas Infrastructure
HPCL LNG Limited (a subsidiary of HPCL) manages the HPCL LNG terminal and designed it to regasify 5 MTPA of LNG. As reported by newsonprojects.com, the pipeline will ensure a steady supply of natural gas. It will strengthen India’s energy security and support industrial and domestic gas consumption.
