A new container shipping route connecting Yangpu Port in the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) with India has officially started operations, marking a significant step in strengthening regional trade and logistics connectivity. The service represents Yangpu Port’s second dedicated South Asia shipping route and expands its role as a key international maritime hub. The route links Yangpu, Haiphong in Vietnam, Singapore, and Mundra in India, creating a strategic connection between major ports in South China, the Beibu Gulf region, and South Asia.
Faster Export Channel for Hainan Products
The newly launched Yangpu–India container route is expected to provide a more efficient export pathway for products from Hainan to Indian markets. Key shipments, including rapeseed oil and chemical products, will benefit from improved logistics access and faster transportation. In addition, cargo from other Chinese ports can be transferred through Yangpu for onward delivery to South Asian destinations. The enhanced connectivity is expected to support regional trade growth while improving supply chain efficiency between China and India.
Yangpu Port Expands Role as Global Logistics Hub
As the largest cargo port in Hainan FTP, Yangpu Port continues to strengthen its position as an important node in the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. The trade corridor connects China’s western regions with international markets through integrated maritime and land-based transportation networks. With the addition of the India route, Yangpu further enhances its capabilities as a gateway for global trade and cross-border commerce.
Maritime Authorities Ensure Smooth Route Operations
To support the successful launch of the new service, the Yangpu maritime bureau coordinated closely with shipping companies and optimized vessel traffic management plans. Authorities enhanced safety measures by increasing patrols across waterways and port areas while ensuring smooth vessel operations. During the inaugural voyage, maritime teams used vessel monitoring systems, electronic patrols, and on-site escort services to ensure safe navigation. They also streamlined inspection procedures to improve customs clearance efficiency and reduce logistics costs.
Building Stronger South Asia Shipping Connections
The latest route builds on Yangpu Port’s growing network of South Asia connections. The port launched its first South Asia shipping service in October 2019, linking Yangpu with Port Klang in Malaysia and Chittagong in Bangladesh. As reported by chinadaily.com, with the new India connection, Yangpu Port continues to expand its international shipping network and strengthen its role in facilitating global trade flows.
