HHP Five Planning Green Ammonia Plant in Odisha

HHP Five Private Limited, (subsidiary of Hygenco Green Energies Pvt Ltd), officially broken ground on its upcoming green ammonia plant in Gopalpur, Odisha. The ground-breaking ceremony marks a major step forward in India’s transition to clean energy and highlights Odisha’s growing importance as a hub for sustainable industrial growth.

Gopalpur Poised to Become Clean Energy Powerhouse

Hygenco’s latest project positions Gopalpur at the heart of India’s green energy ambitions. The company emphasized that the plant aligns with the state’s vision of clean energy-led industrial development and contributes to India’s broader decarbonisation goals.

1.1 Million Tonne Capacity Planned in Phases

The green ammonia plant will be developed in three phases, targeting a total production capacity of 1.1 million tonnes per year:

  • Phase 1 (2028): 220,000 tonnes per annum (ktpa)
  • Phase 2 (2029): Additional 220 ktpa
  • Phase 3 (2030 onward): Completion to reach full capacity of 730 ktpa

The phased approach allows for scalable growth, ensuring alignment with domestic and international demand for green ammonia.

Building on Green Hydrogen Success

Hygenco previously made headlines by commissioning India’s first commercial megawatt-scale green hydrogen plant. This pioneering project supports the decarbonisation of the steel sector. With the Gopalpur ammonia facility, the company is now expanding its clean energy footprint.

Amit Bansal, Co-founder and CEO of Hygenco, said, “Building on our pioneering success in green hydrogen, Hygenco is now setting new benchmarks in India’s green ammonia landscape. With this project, we are not only advancing energy self-sufficiency but also unlocking export opportunities that position India as a global leader in green ammonia.”

Global Green Goals

The project fully aligns with India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission and promises cost-competitive, world-class solutions to help industries decarbonize. The facility is strategically located at Gopalpur Port. It addresses domestic demand and caters to global markets. This positions India as a serious player in green ammonia exports.

Economic Boost and Employment Generation

Beyond environmental benefits, the project is also expected to generate indirect employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases. As reported by eog-asia.com, the strategic location ensures robust connectivity and access. This enables industrial sectors to transition to greener alternatives efficiently.
