Hindustan Zinc, introduced its new low-carbon green zinc brand, EcoZen. EcoZen marks the introduction of Asia’s first low-carbon zinc product for the global market. Certified through a life cycle assessment (LCA) by a global sustainability consulting firm, EcoZen features a carbon footprint of less than one ton of carbon equivalent per ton of zinc produced.
The achievement, realized through the use of renewable energy, results in a carbon footprint approximately 75% lower than the global average. Zinc is crucial for galvanizing steel, which is used to prevent corrosion in various industries, including steel, infrastructure, automotive, renewable energy, electronics, high-tech manufacturing, energy storage, defense, and electric mobility.
The introduction of EcoZen underscores Hindustan Zinc’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions and providing customers with a sustainable, competitive edge. EcoZen’s use is projected to reduce carbon emissions by around 400 kg per ton of galvanized steel.
EcoZen is a blend of eco-consciousness and quality, presenting a sustainable product with one of the lowest global warming potential (GWP) values – about 75% below the global average. Its certification was achieved using a mass-balance approach from cradle-to-gate.
As reported by freepressjournal.in, Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to its Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) goals aims to halve carbon emissions by 2030. The company is increasing its reliance on renewable energy and enhancing operational efficiency.
