HD Hyundai Chemical Co. has collaborated with CJ CheilJedang Corporation to manufacture environmentally friendly bio-naphtha and related plastic items. The companies signed a business agreement aimed at establishing an eco-conscious bio-circular system at HD Hyundai Chemical’s headquarters in Daesan, South Chungcheong Province.

As per the terms of the agreement, CJ CheilJedang will provide a consistent supply of bio-raw materials, including soybean oil and waste cooking oil, to HD Hyundai Chemical. HD Hyundai Chemical will utilize these bio-raw materials to produce bio-naphtha, subsequently delivering the resulting eco-friendly plastic products back to CJ CheilJedang.

The eco-friendly plastic will find application in CJ CheilJedang’s household meal containers and packaging materials. Initially, HD Hyundai Chemical plans to utilize 400 tons of bio-raw materials to yield a total of 12,000 tons of eco-friendly plastic products by the year’s end.

As reported by The Korea Economic Daily, the collaboration marks a significant milestone as it represents the first instance in South Korea where the entire process, from the intake of bio-raw materials to the production of bio-naphtha and associated products, has been accredited with the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC).
