India and Australia officially launched their Renewable Energy Partnership (REP), focusing on strengthening bilateral investment in renewable energy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian PM Anthony Albanese announced the initiative. It was during the second India-Australia Annual Summit at the G20 in Rio.
Advancing Strategic Partnerships
During their discussions, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
They highlighted ongoing collaboration in key areas such as defense, security, trade, education, skills development, sports, space, mobility, and cultural ties.
Renewable Energy Partnership Unveiled
Prime Ministers Modi and Albanese welcomed the launch of the REP, which had been agreed upon during their first annual summit.
The initiative provides a framework for collaboration on critical renewable energy projects, including solar photovoltaic (PV) technology, green hydrogen production, energy storage solutions, and workforce training for future renewable energy needs.
“Our renewable energy partnership is officially launched,” Albanese declared, emphasizing the initiative’s potential to bolster two-way investment in renewable energy.
He added, “We are working together to drive the renewable energy transition and meet our net zero targets”.
Commitment to a Stable Indo-Pacific
The leaders also discussed regional and multilateral issues, reiterating their shared commitment to a free, inclusive, and stable Indo-Pacific region.
They underscored the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity as part of maintaining peace and prosperity in the area.
