Soluble fertilisers have become a crucial element in India’s agricultural transformation. They enhance nutrient efficiency, improve soil health, and support residue-free crop production. With steady growth driven by research-backed innovations and evolving regulations, India is strengthening its position as a global leader in the fertiliser sector.

India’s Growing Influence in the Global Fertiliser Market

Recognising India’s advancements, the Soluble Fertilizer Industry Association, India (SFIA India), received an invitation to present at CAC China 2025, the world’s largest trade forum for agrochemicals. Organised by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), this annual event serves as a key platform for global agro-input companies to secure supply chains and explore industry trends. CCPIT’s invitation highlighted India’s increasing influence in the international fertiliser market.

Showcasing SOMS Fertilizers: A Sustainable Breakthrough

At the conference, Rajib Chakraborty, National President of SFIA India, presented India’s success in sustainable farming through SOMS Fertilizers (Soluble Fertilizer, Organic Fertilizer, Micronutrient and Bio Stimulants). The pioneering approach integrates multiple nutrient sources to achieve high-yield, nutrient-rich, and environmentally sustainable agriculture. SOMS offers a cost-effective, efficient alternative to subsidised fertilisers, reducing dependency while benefiting both farmers and governments.

Economic and Environmental Benefits of SOMS

“SOMS is a scientifically structured approach that enhances nutrient use efficiency, ensures environmental sustainability, and significantly reduces reliance on conventional subsidised fertilisers,” said Rajib Chakraborty. “This shift carries major financial benefits for governments, optimising subsidy expenditures while promoting long-term soil health.”

Strengthening Global Collaborations and Research

SFIA India’s participation in CAC China 2025 reaffirmed its commitment to policy advocacy, fostering research collaborations, and stabilizing supply chains in the soluble fertiliser sector. The organization collaborates with over 50 universities, ICAR, and CSIR to drive regulatory advancements. It also partners with research institutions for product innovations. A notable partnership with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, National Research Centre for Grapes, is evaluating SOMS as an alternative to traditional fertiliser subsidies. The results are expected by mid-2025.

A Scalable Model for Sustainable Agriculture

With the rising global demand for residue-free and high-efficiency fertiliser solutions, India’s contributions are gaining recognition. SOMS, in particular, is emerging as a sustainable agricultural model. By reducing fertilizer subsidies and ensuring optimal nutrient management, SOMS offers a scalable solution for governments. It supports cost-effective and environmentally responsible agricultural policies worldwide.

According to the press release, SFIA India remains committed to fostering industry collaboration. It aims to strengthen India’s presence in the agro-input sector and shape the future of sustainable farming.
