Indian-American Scientists Receive America’s Highest Scientific Honour

The National Medal of Technology and Innovation is the highest accolade in the United States for remarkable technological achievements, and it was presented by President Joe Biden to two distinguished Indian American scientists, Ashok Gadgil and Subra Suresh. The medals were conferred in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the field of technology and innovation.

Ashok Gadgil

Ashok Gadgil, Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and a senior scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, is renowned for his inventive work in the realm of sustainable development. His primary focus has been on the creation of cost-effective and efficient technologies aimed at enhancing access to clean water, improving energy efficiency, and advancing sanitation in developing nations.

Subra Suresh

Subra Suresh, an Indian-born American bioengineer and materials scientist, is a Professor Emeritus and former dean at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research is centered on the confluence of engineering, physical sciences, life sciences, and medicine. Notably, he was the first Asian-born professor to lead any of the five schools at MIT. As reported by India Today, The National Medal of Technology is an esteemed recognition reserved for individuals who have made exceptional and noteworthy contributions in the field of technology and innovation.
