IndiGrid has been granted a Letter of Intent (LOI) from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL) for the provision of services encompassing the design, supply, testing, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 180 MW/360 megawatt-hours (MWh) in Gujarat.
The initiative forms part of a larger scheme outlined by GUVNL, targeting a 250 MW/500 MWh BESS to enhance the state’s energy storage capabilities, facilitating the integration of renewable energy during peak and off-peak periods.
According to the power ministry, the classification and status of BESS installations are contingent upon their application and location. IndiGrid has noted that due to its integration into the grid and collocation within the GETCO substation, the project will be recognized as part of the transmission system.
IndiGrid secured the project as the second lowest bidder in GUVNL’s reverse auction process, securing the development rights for 180 MW/360 MWh. As reported by businessline, the project has been awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework and will be executed on a build, own, and operate (BOO) basis for a period of twelve years, with the possibility of extension subject to mutual agreement.
IndiGrid CEO Harsh Shah said, “Over the last year, IndiGrid has made investments to strengthen its expertise in developing and managing BESS projects by undertaking pilot projects at our own sites. This is the second BESS win for us in the last 6 months – a great achievement for our entire team and a testament of our capability. We believe that the BESS landscape in India is slated to witness accelerated growth going forward and IndiGrid is positioned well to participate in this upswing”.
