Indosol Solar Private Ltd, a subsidiary of Shirdi Sai Electricals (SSEL), commenced operations at its solar PV module manufacturing plant located in Ramayapatnam, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The facility, which started production on March 31, 2024, signifies Indosol’s dedication to delivering high-quality solar products and its unwavering commitment to reducing India’s reliance on imports.
At the initial stage, the facility will be capable of producing 500 megawatts (MW) of fully automated solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, incorporating various glass-glass and glass-back sheet combinations, including TOPCon (tunnel oxide passivated contact) and HJT (heterojunction technology) modules.
Indosol plans to invest ₹1,300 crore in the development of the initial phase, utilizing thirty acres of allocated land. Upon completion, it will become the world’s first fully-integrated quartz-to-module manufacturing plant, with a projected capacity of thirty gigawatts (GW) upstream and twenty GW downstream facilities. The entire project is slated to be executed in stages over the next five years.
The integrated project will encompass 8,348 acres of land, including ancillary industries, a township, common infrastructure such as roads and power, a 100 MLD desalination plant, storage facilities, etc. Additionally, it will incorporate a mandatory thirty-three percent green area and exclude land required for captive power generation.
Phase 1A of the project is expected to be completed by December 2024, with manufacturing capacities for 500 MW modules, 500 MW cells, and 500 MW ingot-wafer. As reported by businessline, the entire phase one, with a capacity of approximately five GW, is set to be finalized by 2025, requiring an investment of ₹15,000 crore. Furthermore, an additional five GW of glass panels, a crucial raw material for the modules, will be manufactured internally. The company aims to achieve full capacity by 2028.
