Nepal Oil Corporation and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) signed an agreement to initiate the construction of two new pipeline projects, marking a significant advancement in the energy cooperation between the two neighbouring nations.

The first pipeline, running from Siliguri in India to Jhapa in Nepal, will span 50 kilometers, while the second will cover 62 kilometers from Amlekhgunj to Lothar in Chitwan.

The collaboration is a major step forward in bolstering energy security and streamlining petroleum logistics, particularly in Nepal’s mountainous regions.

The Framework Agreement aims to extend the Motihari-Amlekhgunj Petroleum Products Pipeline (MAPL) to Chitwan, establish a new pipeline from Siliguri to Jhapa, and construct two terminals to serve key demand centers in Jhapa and Chitwan.

As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, IOCL Chairman V. Satish Kumar emphasized that the agreement builds on the success of the existing Motihari-Amlekhgunj pipeline and will facilitate uninterrupted energy connectivity, contributing to greater energy security for both countries.
