Jakson Pioneers Carbon Dioxide to Methanol Conversion Technology for NTPC Limited

Jakson Green, a player in energy transition solutions, has reached a significant breakthrough in partnership with NTPC.

Together, they have successfully synthesized methanol from captured carbon dioxide at NTPC’s Vindhyachal Thermal Power Plant in Madhya Pradesh, India.

Conceptualized and developed by NTPC’s R&D division, NETRA (NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance), the state-of-the-art facility captures CO2 directly from flue gas emissions.

The captured CO2 is then converted into methanol, a cleaner and versatile fuel suitable for applications such as power generation and transportation.

A New Era in Green Energy

Bikesh Ogra, CEO and Managing Director of Jakson Green Private Limited stated, “We are happy to partner with NTPC in bringing this transformative project to life. It marks the first instance of producing methanol from captured carbon and stands as the inaugural commissioned project in the Indian green molecule space. This achievement underscores our commitment to advancing sustainable innovations in the new energy sector”.

E.K.S Sreekumar, Head of Strategy at Jakson Green noted, “As the EPC contractor, we are honoured to have led the engineering, procurement, and construction of this landmark project. This first-of-its-kind endeavour has provided invaluable learning experiences for our team. It empowers us to tackle future challenges and deliver innovative solutions”.

Transforming Global Energy Standards

The pioneering project sets a new benchmark for the global energy industry. It demonstrates the immense potential of carbon capture and utilization technologies.

Jakson Green continues to lead the way in new energy solutions, executing six major power-to-X projects. It includes two additional collaborations with NTPC.

Expanding the Green Frontier

Jakson Green is spearheading India’s first green hydrogen refuelling station for urban mobility. It is also leading the development of the world’s first CO2-to-4G ethanol plant.

These initiatives reflect the company’s unwavering dedication to innovation and sustainability.

As per the press release, Jakson Green is working alongside NTPC on transformative projects. This partnership reinforces Jakson Green’s commitment to shaping a sustainable future. It also paves the way for groundbreaking advancements in energy transition.
