Steel manufacturer Jindal Stainless committed to the ambitious goals of reducing emissions and achieving net-zero targets as outlined by the science based targets initiative. The commitment entails a comprehensive assessment of the company’s greenhouse gas emissions across its operations and supply chain.
Over the next two years, Jindal Stainless will develop science based targets aligned with the latest climate science, crucial for supporting the objectives of the Paris Agreement, which seeks to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The targets will undergo validation by the SBTi.
Jindal Stainless has implemented various initiatives as part of its decarbonization strategy. These include the establishment of a green hydrogen plant and the procurement of a contract for a 300 MW wind-solar hybrid renewable energy project.
As reported by RenewableWatch, through these efforts, the company aims to generate more than 1.9 billion units of clean power annually, potentially resulting in a reduction of over 1.352 million tons of carbon emissions per year. In March 2023, Jindal Stainless announced plans to construct two rooftop solar plants with capacities of 21 MWp and 6 MWp at its Jajpur and Hisar facilities, respectively.
