JSW Steel Introduces indigenous Coated Steel for Superior Corrosion Resistance

JSW Steel has introduced an innovative product called magsure, a zinc-magnesium-aluminium alloy coated steel, designed to offer enhanced corrosion resistance. The specialized steel is particularly suited for use in environments with high levels of corrosion, finding applications in various sectors such as solar installations, silos, guard rails, and AC components.

As one of the leading player in India’s steel industry and a part of the esteemed JSW Group with a $24 billion valuation, JSW Steel takes pride in being the first and only Indian steel company to produce and market such a product domestically. The company has secured a patent for the unique chemical composition of magsure, highlighting its commitment to innovation and quality.

JSW magsure is poised to reduce India’s dependence on imported coated steel significantly. Previously, the demand for zinc-magnesium-aluminium alloy coated steel, which has witnessed a remarkable six-fold growth since 2020, was solely met through imports, posing supply constraints due to reliance on patented technologies held by a few global giants.

JSW Steel anticipates that the increased availability of magsure will not only cater to the needs of the domestic renewable energy sector but also stimulate demand across other industries. Furthermore, recognizing export potential, the company is exploring opportunities in European and middle Eastern markets.

Currently, JSW Steel manufactures magsure, along with other value-added products, at its facilities in Karnataka and Maharashtra, boasting a production capacity of up to 0.9 million tons per annum. As reported by ThePrint, the strategic move underscores JSW Steel’s commitment to meeting evolving market demands through innovation and domestic production capabilities.
