KBC, a Yokogawa Company, Recognized for Leadership in Decarbonization. KBC has bagged the Energy Transition Solution of the Year Award at the European Refining Technology Conference (ERTC).

The honour recognizes KBC’s significant role in advancing decarbonization within European refining.

The award, presented during the ERTC Industry Awards ceremony, highlights KBC’s successful collaboration with Galp on a transformative Decarbonization Roadmap for the Galp Sines Refinery.

Collaboration with Galp

Building on sustainability efforts initiated by Galp in 2017, KBC applied its Integrated Process, Energy, Emissions, and Economics Model to evaluate over 100 energy efficiency and CO2 reduction opportunities.

The comprehensive decarbonization roadmap assessed the refinery’s configuration and explored the potential impacts of various technologies, including carbon capture, green electricity, hydrogen (both green and blue), and electrification.

The collaborative approach has set a clear path for reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO2 emissions by at least 30%.

The roadmap demonstrates how effective partnerships can drive meaningful emissions reductions while ensuring continued operational excellence and economic viability.
